District 3 GRPA tournaments set for Moultrie

MOULTRIE – Mark the calendars. Towards the end of June, the trek begins for young baseball and softball players both in Colquitt County and all over the state to claim top prize in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association 2017 tournament season.

From GRPA.org, Moultrie-Colquitt County Recreation is hosting three Class A/B District 3 tournaments beginning with a day full of contests on Saturday, June 24, at the Magnolia Complex.

The 8 & under Machine Pitch Baseball District features two Moultrie teams on the bracket, one of which will play a 9 a.m. start against Grady. Also at 9 a.m., Mitchell County faces Sumter County. The winner of that game, at 11:40, meets one of two teams slated to play from Crisp County.

At 10:20, Moultrie’s second team faces off with Bainbridge while Crisp’s second team will play Thomasville YMCA.

Two winners bracket games take place at 1 p.m.

On Monday, June 26, the 12 & under traditional baseball district tournament begins. This is a three-team pool play event, and at 5:30 p.m. Moultrie’s entrant goes against Sumter County. Sumter, at 7:30, also plays Mitchell County on that date.

Mitchell and Moultrie play the final pool game on Tuesday, June 27, at 6.

The 10 & under Pitch Machine Baseball District is also a three-team pool format with two of the teams from Moultrie. On June 27, both of Moultrie’s teams – Gold vs. Black – meet at 5:30. That’s followed by Gold vs. Mitchell County and Black vs. Mitchell County.

GRPA Class A/B state baseball tournaments are July 11-15 at the following locations: 8 & under Machine Pitch at Ware County, 10 & under Pitch Machine at East Point and 12 & under traditional at Effingham County.

Moultrie-Colquitt County Recreation is hosting the state championship for Class A/B 8 & under Machine Pitch Softball in July. District 3 will also be decided at the Magnolia Complex beginning June 24.

Games that day include Bainbridge vs. Thomasville Y at 9 a.m., Crisp County vs. the Bainbridge-Thomasville winner at 11:40 and Moultrie vs. Lee County at 10:20.

Other District 3 softball tournaments with Moultrie entrants are the 10 & under Machine Pitch beginning June 24 at the Bill Reynolds Complex in Bainbridge. Moultrie has two teams already listed on the bracket, one playing Lee County at 11:30 a.m. and the other facing the winner between Thomasville YMCA and Crisp County at 1 p.m.

The state championship for 10 & under Machine Pitch Softball is also hosted by Bainbridge.

In 14 & under softball, District 3 is a best-of-3 series between Moultrie and Tift County at the E.B. Hamilton Complex in Tifton. The teams will play a doubleheader June 26 – Game 1 at 5 p.m. – with a third game if needed June 27 at 6. The winner plays in state at Augusta.

Rosters for the Moultrie-Colquitt GRPA tournament teams will be released at a later date.
