Tyson to compete at Junior Home Run Derby

- Hunter Tyson is set to be part of Major League Baseball’s Junior Home Run Derby finals after winning his region tournament last month.
TIFTON — Hunter Tyson is the 2017 Major League Baseball Junior Home Run Derby 12U regional champ.
Tyson is a 12-year-old Irwin County resident and the son of Steven and Stacey Tyson. He is a student at Irwin County Middle.

Tyson won the local Home Run Derby in Tifton March 18, which qualified him to compete at the regional May 7. Competing against 40 other players in Alpharetta, he won that tournament as well.
As the representative of the Southeast Region, Tyson won an all-expenses paid trip for two July 7-11 to compete in the National Final. The finals will be held July 8 at Marlins Stadium.
The Junior Home Run Derby has two divisions — 12U and 14U. Regionals were held in several cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas and Phoenix.
A baseball fan, he played for Irwin County Middle in 2017 and is currently playing for the Five Star Mafia travel ball team and the Irwin County Recreation All-Stars.
