UPDATE: Police report armed robbery at American Legion near Drexel Park

CLARIFICATION: Tuesday night’s armed robbery took place near Drexel Park, according to Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress, not in the park, as Valdosta State University originally said.

Childress said the robbery took place at American Legion Post 13 on Williams Street. A man was leaving the building when another man came at him with a gun, Childress said.

The gunman stole money from the man’s wallet, then fled in the direction of Drexel Park.

VALDOSTA — An armed robbery took place near Drexel Park Tuesday evening, according to Valdosta State University.

Right after the robbery, police were looking for the suspect, described as a black male wearing a yellow shirt and black shorts.

After sending out an initial message about the robbery to the VSU community, the university sent a follow-up message soon after giving the “all clear.” “(Valdosta Police Department) is still working leads,” the message said.

“No known connection to VSU at this time. Continue to remain vigilant in the area. Contact (university police) with any information.”
