MADISON, Fla. — After a car chase through state lines, two suspects were caught and charged with fleeing and attempting to elude and trafficking about two pounds of methamphetamine.
The chase began about 3 p.m. Wednesday when a deputy noticed a white Subaru Impreza traveling south on Interstate 75 with extremely dark window tint. The deputy then attempted to conduct a traffic stop, said Capt. Stryde Jones with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
“But they took off running,” Jones said.
The suspects got off the interstate at Exit 11 and continued south into Madison, Fla.
Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison Police Department.
Eventually, the two suspects stopped at an address in Madison, where the chase continued on foot, Jones said. At that point, Madison County utilized its K9 unit to track down and apprehend the suspects.
The suspects were identified as Randy Cheatham, 43, of Adel, and Maegan Wright, 26, of Jacksonville Fla.
Cheatham is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime, obstruction of an officer, fleeing and attempting to elude and trafficking methamphetamine, Jones said.
Wright is charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime and obstruction of an officer, Jones said.
