Valdosta gas prices inch upward

VALDOSTA, Ga. — Gas prices nudged upward in the past week, following a statewide trend.

The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Valdosta Sunday was $2.05, up a penny from the week before, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The lowest price in the city Sunday was $1.91 at a pair of retailers on U.S. 84/West Hill Avenue, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.

Gasbuddy also listed 26 stores in Valdosta selling gasoline for less than $2 a gallon Sunday, down from 33 a week earlier.

Nationally, the price of gasoline Sunday averaged $2.25 a gallon, down from $2.26 the previous week, while the average price in Georgia jumped three cents to $2.15 in the same period, the auto club said.

In Friday market action, benchmark U.S. crude rose 46 cents, or 1 percent, to settle at $46.54 per barrel on New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude, used to price international oils, gained 49 cents, or 1 percent, to $48.91 per barrel in London.

In other energy trading, wholesale gasoline picked up 3 cents to $1.56 a gallon. Heating oil rose 2 cents to $1.52 a gallon. Natural gas gained 2 cents to $2.98 per 1,000 cubic feet.
