THOMASVILLE — A man making a delivery to a Smith Avenue package store was surprised by a beer robbery when he returned to the vehicle, according to reports.

Police were notified mid-afternoon Thursday about a beer robbery at Bird Dog Bottle Company, 1918 Smith Ave.

The delivery person told officers that while he was in the store, someone stole two cases of cranberry beer and a case of Corona from his truck. The side door on the truck was left open, a Thomasville Police Department (TPD) incident report says.

Watching truck surveillance video, the delivery man saw a man take the beverages, then walk to a vehicle parked next door at the Social Security office and put the cases of beer in the vehicle.

The incident report stated that several minutes later, the man shown in the surveillance video was seen riding a skateboard near the business. Two store employees attempted to approach the man, who jumped in the vehicle and left.

“We are investigating the incident,” TPD Criminal Investigations Division commander, Capt. Maurice Holmes said Friday morning.

A possible tag number obtained by employees did not come back to the vehicle in the video — a small, blue SUV.
