“We need to make our community a more attractive place for outside companies looking for a new home,” Beverly said.
The community also should be receptive to existing industries and business wanting to grow, he added.
He pointed out that job growth is primarily in existing businesses and industries.
Beverly said utilities rates and the city’s new amphitheater are among Thomasville’s economic development benefits. He would like to see stronger results from economic development efforts by city government and the overall community.

Beverly, 47, wants more other post-employment benefits (OPEB) for city employees. The city’s pension plan is fully funded, he said.
“I’d like to see our other OPEB fully funded so other generations are not left holding the bill for what we’re doing now,” Beverly said.
City council candidate qualifying opens Monday, Aug. 21, and ends Friday, Aug. 25.
