VALDOSTA — Players, coaches and fans hunkered down when the sound of gun shots brought an abrupt end to midnight football practice at Bazemore-Hyder stadium. 

Police responded to the scene, investigating a nearby area outside the stadium where the Valdosta Wildcats were holding Midnight Madness. 

Witnesses said players and coaches all appeared to be safe.
