The Valwood softball team came away with an 8-3 region win against the Deerfield-Windsor Knights in Albany on Thursday evening.

Valwood was shut down in the first inning, while Deerfield jumped out quick with a 2-0 lead. However, the Knights’ scoring stopped there until one more run crossed the plate in the third inning.

The Valiants came back strong in the second, scoring two and continuing to score each inning. They were led by freshman Bri Fosdick, sophomore Ansley Bennett, sophomore Brittany Hasty and freshman Lindsey Browning, who all tallied two hits on the day.

Ansley Bennett started in the circle, holding Deerfield to just four hits through four innings. Darcee Brown closed out the last three innings, shutting down nine straight batters to secure the win.
