VALDOSTA – Theatre Guild Valdosta needs a few Santa helpers for an upcoming holiday show.

Auditions are scheduled 6:30-8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 2, 3, for “A Christmas Spectacular,” a revue-style show being produced and created by Theatre Guild.

Auditions will be held at The Dosta Playhouse, 122 N. Ashley St., according to the Guild.

“This is a musical revue-type show of familiar Christmas songs suitable for the entire family,” said Pauline Player, the assistant director for the production. “It will feature songs sung by the entire cast, small ensembles, and solos. There is a script with several speaking parts designed to give the show some structure.”

Veteran Guild member Grant Brown is the show director.

Though the cast is described as flexible, the Guild wants at least 16 female and male adult singers and a smaller group of children, ages 8-16.

“All children must have prior stage experience,” Player said. “We are looking for performers who can sing and speak clearly and who present a pleasant stage presence. New talent to TGV is always welcome. All cast members must be able to sing but not all need to be soloists. We need ensemble singers, too. Rehearsal days and times will be determined by the cast after they are selected.”

Anyone auditioning should be prepared to sing at least 16 measures of a song, according to organizers. People will also be asked to read a paragraph for speaking roles.

Directors also want an “interpretive style” solo dancer, male or female, and a male-female couple for a ballroom dance.

“These people will not need to sing,” Player said. “If they can, that would be great. Dancers auditioning should perform a short dance, providing their own recorded music to dance to.”

The Guild is also seeking a solo flutist and violinist. Directors ask such musicians to be prepared to perform a short piece of music to audition.

The performances are scheduled for Dec. 7-9 & 14-16 at The Dosta Playhouse.
