Colquitt softball team eliminated at Newnan

NEWNAN — The Colquitt County softball team’s season ended on Thursday in Newnan, where the Lady Packers dropped a first-round state playoff doubleheader to the Lady Cougars, 6-3 and 4-2.
Newnan will advance to play the winner of the North Cobb-Etowah series. Colquitt, the No. 3 team from Region 1-7A, finishes 14-14.

Colquitt County’s Gracie Frazier hit a leadoff home run in Game 1, but Newnan scored six times in the bottom of the second and the Lady Packers were not able to catch up.
Colquitt out-hit Newnan 8-7. Kelli Johnson and Abby Plymel each had two hits. Frazier, Paige Vaughan, Marlie Wingate and Dontaysha Wilson had the other hits.
Plymel took the loss.
In the second game, the Lady Cougars broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run fourth inning and, again, Colquitt was unable to track them down.
The Lady Packers managed just two hits, a single by Plymel and a double by Vaughan. Kylie Davis and Kelsey Patel drove in the two Colquitt County runs.
Bailey Howard went the distance in the circle, giving up all four runs and just three hits.
