Man arrested in East Jane Street shooting death

One person is dead and another charged with murder in a deadly shooting Tuesday morning along East Jane Street.

VALDOSTA — One person is dead and another charged with murder in a deadly shooting Tuesday morning along East Jane Street.

The Valdosta Police Department arrested Jean Claude Doricien on a charge of murder related to the shooting death of 39-year-old Tovara Flowers, according to reports.

About 10:30 a.m., numerous officers and detectives were dispatched in response to a shooting at the 600 block of East Jane Street. Officers made contact with Flowers, who had been shot multiple times, according to a VPD report.

VPD and Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office units provided first aid and attempted CPR until paramedics arrived. The victim was then taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.

The report states the crime scene was sealed off immediately and crime scene technicians from the Valdosta/Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory were called to assist along with VPD Bureau of Investigation detectives.

During the investigation, the Valdosta city camera system picked up a subject running from the area. A Be On the Look Out was issued for the subject and a K-9 unit was deployed, according to the report.

Within minutes, narcotics detectives located the person of interest near the intersection of East Moore Street and North Forrest Street. The subject was detained and evidence was collected that may possibly connect the subject to the shooting, according to police.

The person of interest was brought to the police department where he was interviewed by person’s crime detectives, the report states. The person of interest has been identified as 31-year-old Jean Claude Doricien.

Doricien has been taken into custody and is being charged with felony murder, according to police reports. Doricien was taken to the Lowndes County Jail.

The shooting appears to be an isolated incident and no further suspects are being sought, the report states.

“Chief (Brian) Childress commented on how proud he was of the great work by all responding officers and detectives who had the offender in custody in less than two hours. Additionally, he advised how grateful he was to our city leaders for continuing to support the use and expansion of the city-wide camera system that proved invaluable in this case,” VPD Lt. Adam Bembry said.
