COHUTTA, Ga. — The Cohutta Police Department is asking for the public’s help tracking down several wild bandits who have been killing livestock and damaging property in the area.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page Monday morning, two wild dogs that have been seen around town are suspected in the killing of a goat and vandalism of a car. The dogs have eluded capture.

Police Chief Raymond Grossman said the incidents have been going on since last week.

“We have a couple of dogs people have either dumped out up here or are just wild,” Grossman said. “We have had one goat killed and a report that it chewed up a bumper on the car. I have had a report of maybe three or four dogs in a couple of locations around here and we just wanted to let people be aware.”

Grossman said the dogs have been spotted near the intersection of Cohutta-Varnell Road and Wolfe Street and near the University of Georgia fish hatchery up to the Tennessee state line at Red Clay State Park.

In the post on Facebook, Grossman provided descriptions of two dogs. One was described as having the look of a German shepherd and was black. The other is a large white dog with brown spots. Grossman said neither dog had a collar, and even though neither is known to be rabid, they were described as mean-tempered.

“If you see these wild dogs please take account of their location and report it immediately to the on-duty Cohutta Police Department officer by calling (706) 370-4900,” Grossman wrote.
