Suspect in Arbor Trace shooting surrenders

UPDATE: The shooting suspect, Quenton McGee, has turned himself in at Lowndes County Jail, according to Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress.

VALDOSTA —Authorities are searching for Quenton McGee, a black male, age 18, in connection to a shooting death that happened at Arbor Trace apartment complex at about 8 p.m. Monday.

According to Valdosta Chief of Police Brian Childress, officers responded to a call at the apartment complex located on Park Avenue and found a male victim inside a vehicle with multiple gun shot wounds.

The victim was transported to South Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Childress said authorities believe the shooting was drug related and an isolated incident.

Detectives worked leads throughout the night and identified the suspect. 

According to a police report, detectives and technicians from the Valdosta/Lowndes Regional Crime Lab responded to the scene. Detectives were able to identify the driver of the vehicle who had fled the scene.

The report stated that the victim and the driver went to the complex where an altercation took place with the offender. The offender then fled the scene. 

McGee’s whereabouts are unknown. Valdosta Police Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for felony murder for McGee.

“This is a tragic situation and my heart goes out to the family of the victim. But I also want to state how proud I am of the officers and detectives of the Valdosta Police Department who have worked tirelessly all night to identify the offender and obtain a murder warrant for this arrest”, Childress said.
