School board members differ over out-of-town retreats

VALDOSTA, Ga. — Lowndes County school board members differed this week regarding whether to go out of town for a planning retreat.  Board member Dave Clark asked the board to consider moving its annual planning session to February and spending more time at the retreat, not having it all in one eight-hour day, to allow for more time to discuss topics of each board member’s interest. District 1 board member Mike Davis suggested at least a two-day retreat. Brian Browning, who represents District 4, said he liked going out of town for the retreat because it allows members to come together after board business was discussed and build camaraderie.    Vice Chairman Glenn Gregory said he did not think the board needed to be out of town for three days to deal with board business. District 7 board member Eddie Smith also said he felt the retreat should stay local.  The board is expected to vote regarding the retreat at its next meeting Dec. 4
