Tift County is at the end of the two-year schedule cycle, meaning that, with the exception of region, the Devils are starting from scratch.

Head coach Ashley Anders said Tift was entertaining options in regards to opponents. The schedule won’t be set until January 2018.

Currently, Anders has a scrimmage set against Lee County. For now, the Devils are looking at a regular season opener at Warner Robins.

Valdosta will be back on the schedule as a home game, he said.

Other possibilities are Worth County, Crisp County and Parkview, he said.

Lee and Warner Robins are both state finalists this year, Lee in Class AAAAAA, Warner Robins in AAAAA.

Valdosta and Tift have met every season since 1966. Tift won 20-10 in 2017, their first victory over the Wildcats since 2009 and first in Valdosta since 1993.

Warner Robins and Tift last met in 2009, when they were in the same region, and have played eight games total. Tift has won six in the series, including the 1979 Class AAAA semifinals.

A game with Crisp County would be the first since 2005. The two were formerly in the same region from 1970-79.

Worth and Tift last played in 2013, but were often opponents in previous seasons. The first meeting between the schools was in 1920, involving Tifton High and Sylvester High, which was still known as McPhaul Institute.

Lee and Tift were in the same region in 2014 and 2015. They played sparingly in the years prior and in total just six times, all since 2000.

Tift finished 11-2 in 2017, advancing to the state quarterfinals for the first time since 2006. Besides Valdosta, the team won games over Colquitt County, Parkview, Newnan, Glynn Academy, Coffee and Hillgrove.

In addition to Anders’ attempts to field a 2018 schedule, Region 1-AAAAAAA has announced its master schedules for 2018-19.

The order of games will be the same for Tift as the previous two years.

The Blue Devils will open region at Lowndes Oct. 12, then hosting Colquitt County Oct. 19. Following an off week, they conclude the regular season at Camden County.
