Brittany Frye, middle, was joined by her mom and sister as she signed to play softball for Maryville College.

BRANFORD — When it came time to decide where to play college softball, the choice was easy for Branford’s Brittany Frye.

The standout catcher will join her older sister MacKenzie Frye at Maryville College. Brittany signed with the Scots on Friday in the Branford High Auditorium.

“Ever since we could put gear on, we were together,” said Brittany. “We’ve been pitching and catching together since we were 4 and 5.

“The campus is beautiful, the coach is awesome and my sister is there. I can’t wait.”

Before reuniting with her sister on the softball diamond, Frye still has one more season at BHS. This spring, she’ll look to build upon an already stellar high school career.

In three seasons and 61 total games, Frye has hit .594 with 10 home runs and 66 RBIs. Behind the plate, she has thrown out 16 of 32 base stealers.

“She’s the one everyone looks up to,” Branford softball coach Oscar Saavedra said of Frye. “She’s a great leader and our big bat. We expect big things from her.”

MacKenzie was also pretty excited to see her sister and battery mate sign with Maryville.

“Having the opportunity to play softball with her is going to be really fun,” MacKenzie said. “Being able to just hang out on campus is awesome.”

Maryville College is located in Tennessee and has an enrollment of around 1,200 students. Its athletic programs compete at the Division III level. The softball team had a 22-19 record in 2016.
