VALDOSTA – Guano Guy is a superhero in it for a buck.
Sure, he saves people but he does so to promote Guano Guy, to get rich, to sell his brand of Guano Guy products. By saving people, he establishes his brand.
That’s the motivation of the comic superhero title “Guano Guy.”
Mark Darden, the character’s creator, hopes to sell some issues of “Guano Guy” but he’s in it because he loves comic books.
From 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, Darden is scheduled to sign copies of “Guano Guy” at Kool Comics, 1515 N. Ashley St., Suite M.
From Tallahassee, Fla., he’s lived in Valdosta for about six months while assigned to aviation school.
Comic books have been nearly a life-long love for him.
“I’ve been reading comics since I was 4 years old,” Darden said. “I love comic books. I love comedies. So, it made sense to do a comic book.”
Darden created Guano Guy a few years ago. He writes the scripts and finds artists to illustrate his stories.
“Guano Guy” started as a web-comic. In recent months, he’s self-published printed material with artist Nick Hoffman doing the interior panels and artist Justin Orr creating the cover.
Darden said he is weighing the possibility of finding an artist in the South Georgia area to work on future issues since Hoffman is busy with several projects. Darden already has nine issues worth of materials worked out for “Guano Guy” and is ready for an artist to produce the pages.
He will be signing issues of the comic at Kool Comics. The web-comic built a fan base and Darden said he hopes to increase the fan base with printed issues.
