JASPER — The Hamilton County High School football team will have a new head coach for the 2018 season.

The position became available in December after the resignation of Seth Stebbins, according to Hamilton County athletic director Mike Cohen.

Cohen said approximately 40 applications have been sent in for the job. Cohen said the original pool of candidates has been narrowed to 10 and that interviews will be held Feb. 19 to Feb. 23 for the final three candidates.

“We want to have everything set in February to be ready for spring practice,” said Cohen.

Stebbins went 9-21 in his three seasons at HCHS. He led the Trojans to the playoffs in 2016. The new hire will be the Trojans’ fourth head coach in the past 10 years. Mike Pittman held the job from 2009-2012 and Blair Armstrong coached the Trojans in 2013-14.
