Lowndes, Brooks to benefit from spay/neuter funds

THOMASVILLE  – Miss Kitty Feline Sanctuary announced it received $78,000 from PetSmart Charities, according to an organizational press release.

The funds will help fuel the sanctuary’s spay and neuter efforts in seven South Georgia counties, including Lowndes and Brooks. With the help of the donation, the organization will offer $10 spays and/or neuters to low-income families for their cats and dogs.

Miss Kitty, also known as South Georgia Low Cost Spay & Neuter Clinic, 425 Covington Ave., has already altered 14,000 South Georgia and North Florida animals in the last 18 months, according to the organization.

“With thanks to PetSmart Charities, we are delighted to bring this very affordable program to the citizens of Southwest Georgia by partnering with animal welfare organizations in the following seven South Georgia Counties: Thomas, Brooks, Colquitt, Lowndes, Grady, Mitchell, and Decatur,” said Carol Jones, Miss Kitty executive director.

PetSmart Charities aims to proactively prevent pet homelessness through increased spay and neuter efforts. With the help of animal welfare partners, such as Miss Kitty doing business as South Georgia Low Cost Spay & Neuter Clinic, PetSmart Charities has funded more than 1.7 million spay and neuter surgeries in the U.S. since 2009, according to the press release.
