LIVE OAK — The history of railroads in Suwannee County will be county historian Eric Musgrove’s focus this month at the Live Oak Public Library.
Musgrove’s monthly History of Suwannee County series will be held Thursday at noon. Those interested in attending are welcomed to bring their lunch as they learn about the rails.
On Tuesday, the library will be hosting its recipe swap from noon to 1 p.m. People are asked to bring their family favorites and recipes to sample and swap with others.
The seed library will be open Wednesday — and every Wednesday — from 1-3 p.m. for people to check out seeds for their spring gardens. The Master Gardeners will also be on hand to answer any gardening questions.
A knitting class is scheduled for Feb. 14 at 11:30 a.m. in the small conference room. Library staff member Debra Barney will teach the class, including how to knit, purl, casino on and bind off. Those interested in attending are asked to bring needles and yarn.
Also on Feb. 14, the Master Gardeners will hold an irrigation workshop at 2 p.m. They will present ways to apply controlled amounts of water to plants at needed intervals.
A gardening workshop will be held Feb. 15 as Carolyn Saft, Suwannee County Extension agent, will discuss how to attract wildlife to one’s garden at noon.
Barney will teach a crocheting class at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 21 in the small conference room. Again, those interested in attending are asked to bring needles and yarn.
A CPR and First Aid class will be taught by Suwannee County Fire Rescue on feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those completing the class will receive a certificate. The class is free and space is limited. To register, call the circulation desk at 386-362-2317.
The book club will meet Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. to discus “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand. Copies are available for checkout at the front desk.
The Live Oak Library will be hosting Savvy Caregiver training this spring, starting in March.
Savvy Caregiver is a free, seven-session training program designed for caregivers who serve family members and friends with any form of dementia (i.e. Alzheimer’s). The goal of Savvy is to increase knowledge and skills to lessen caregiver stress and improve levels of care.
Throughout the seven-week series, which begins March 7, caregivers are urged to learn, develop and modify strategies they can use to accomplish goals for their particular caregiving situations.
Those completing this course will:
• Increase skills and knowledge for caregiving,
• Gain confidence to set and alter caregiving goals,
• Understand the progression of dementia,
• Improve caregiver’s self-care skills,
• Increase opportunities for family involvement.
The training will be held at the library from 10 a.m. to noon. Space is limited to the first 15 who register.
