- KFC will keep the drive thru open while interior and exterior renovations are done.
LIVE OAK — The Live Oak Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken buildings are undergoing a remodel.
According to the city’s Building Inspector Dave Young, Burger King plans to add a double drive thru, an additional driveway, along with interior and exterior renovations.
He said the restaurant will be closed for at least five weeks for completion.
Nobody with Burger King could be reached for comment.
Some of the oak trees were cut down to complete the renovations.
That caught the attention of at least one resident with a sign emerging at the Ohio Avenue and Pinewood Street intersection that voiced displeasure with the city council for allowing the trees to be killed. The sign even suggested a name change to “Dead Oak, Fla.” for the city.
However, Planning/Zoning and Development Director George Curtis said the city has an ordinance to protect “Heritage Trees” but the trees at Burger King did not meet the standards for a “Heritage Tree.”
Young said the KFC renovations include an interior and exterior remodel.
He said the business plans to keep the drive thru open during the renovations.
A KFC supervisor said the renovations should be completed by next week.
