Bids for Kids Auction to benefit child abuse prevention

TIFTON — More than $34,000 worth of items will be auctioned off Saturday in the 25th annual Bids for Kids televised auction presented by the Exchange Club of Tifton.
The auction will be held from 5-10 p.m. and will be televised on Channel 11 on Mediacom and Plant Tiftnet. The auction can also be seen live on Facebook at the Exchange Club of Tifton’s Facebook page.
The auction includes more than 200 items donated by area businesses and individuals, including jewelry, artwork, vacation packages, a utility trailer, a home security system and much more.
In the previous 24 years, the club has raised more $475,000 through the event and all of the money raised is returned to community agencies that work to prevent child abuse, such as the Patticake House, CASA and the Tift County Commission on Children and Youth.
Child abuse prevent organizations can apply for funds raised by the auction.
“Preventing child abuse is the top priority of the Exchange Club of Tifton and it’s also our national project,” said Will Roberts, the club’s chairperson for this year’s Bids for Kids. “We’re proud that we’ve been able to help so many agencies that work every day to help and protect children in our community. And we couldn’t do any of it without the generosity of our sponsors and the people who donate goods and services to be auctioned off.”
Throughout the night, four boards, sponsored by Hunt Advertising, The Tifton Gazette, Ameris Bank and AgGeorgia Farm Credit, will rotate five or six times with items to be auctioned off while the Big Board, featuring larger items and sponsored by Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals, will only rotate twice. The Mega Board, featuring the most valuable items and sponsored by Allen, Pritchett & Bassett, will be available for bid throughout the night and will also culminate with a live auction at the end of the night. There is also a Cash Board, sponsored by South Georgia Banking Company, that will be featured throughout the night to recognize those who donated cash to the event.
Viewers will be reminded of the phone number (229-391-9800) throughout the night. all donations are tax deductible. Items purchased will be available for pickup the next day at Northside Baptist Church.
