- Thanos: The God Quarry
Thanos is powerless, homeless. His armor in tatters. To survive, he must eat vermin.
Thanos is sick.
Thanos is alone.
Thanos’ son has taken his father’s place, becoming the paramour for Lady Death.
Thanos is dying.
So opens “Thanos Vol. 2: The God Quarry,” the trade paperback collecting the last issues of the yearlong “Thanos” monthly maxi-series.
It is likely one of several trade paperback collections, new and old, to be released in the coming weeks featuring the Mad Titan — Thanos.
Thanos is the cosmic bad guy who wants to wipe out half of life throughout the universe in the upcoming movie “Avengers: Infinity War.” The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been building up to the arrival of Thanos since he made a cameo appearance during the credits of the first “Avengers” movie in 2012.
Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet have been major forces in Marvel comic books for decades. So, Marvel has a lot of Thanos-related materials to re-issue as companion volumes — as the company did with Thor and Black Panther when their respective movies were released in recent months.
So, how does “The God Quarry” rate?
Long-time Thanos fans will likely enjoy the aspect of Thanos’ “trial” in the God Quarry; his power-mad dysfunctional relationship with his son who is powered by the world-consuming Phoenix Force; seeing Thanos robbed of powers and prestige. It is, after all, a new tale of Thanos.
Newer fans may want to wait for the possibility of the release of past Thanos tales. The cosmic adventures penned and drawn by Jim Starlin, the creator of Thanos. Stories such as “The Infinity Gauntlet,” etc.
Now, then and in between, there’s plenty of Thanos to go around.
