Georgia Christian takes top honors

DASHER – Nine Georgia Christian School students traveled to Sherwood in Albany to compete in the Region Middle School Academics competition.
A team of five students competed in geography bee; they were Lindsey Warren, Neal Bussone, Reagan Lawson, Charles Hamsley and Ian Halick-Jett, according to school officials.

With scores greater than 28, two GCS students, Lawson and Hamsley, successfully passed on to the semi-final round. Lawson narrowed the field to the final round and was named region champion.
Later in the day, four GCS students competed in the region spelling bee in two divisions: fourth/fifth grade and sixth through eighth grade. Jett Guilliams won second place in fourth/fifth grade and Jordan Barber tied for fourth place. Curtis Peek won first place in sixth through eighth grade and Kayden Hicks tied for third place.
The competitive spirit continued as four Georgia Christian students competed at the state geography bee and spelling bee competition in Greensboro.
Defending his region championship in the geography bee, Lawson moved on to the semifinals, then missed the finals by a single point, according to school officials.
In the fourth/fifth spelling bee, Guilliams and Baker went several rounds, with Barber making it to the last five competitors standing. In the sixth through eighth spelling bee, Peek went several rounds, making it to the last eight competitors standing.
