VALDOSTA –– The Valdosta State softball team saw their 2018 season come to an end in heartbreaking fashion with a 1-0 loss to the top-seeded Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at the NCAA South 1 Regional Tournament on Friday in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The Blazers earned the right to play a second game following a 7-0 win against the Albany State Golden Rams earlier in the day.

Valdosta State got off to a slow start offensively against the Golden Rams, but a three-run homer off the bat of Logan Hill opened up the flood gates in the fourth inning to give the Blazers a 3-0 advantage.

Two innings later, the Blazers strung together four base hits for four more runs to finish off the Golden Rams and advance to the third round contest against PBA.

In the nightcap, the Blazers outhit the Sailfish with six base hits against just three allowed by VSU starter Kasie Johnson.

PBA pushed a single run across in the bottom of the first, however, and VSU came up just shy after leaving nine runners on base throughout the course of the seven innings of nailbiting softball.

Valdosta State concluded their season at 42-13 after claiming a Gulf South Conference Title and a 12th consecutive appearance in the NCAA South Regional Tournament.
