Three selected by Team Georgia baseball

Valdosta’s Colby Thomas and Lowndes’ C.J. Rose and Dalton Smith were selected by Team Georgia baseball to play in the Sunbelt Classic Series, beginning Friday in McAlester, Okla.

Team Georgia is comprised of the top 20 juniors in the state. The team competes against other states, as well as Canada.

Players were nominated by their high school coaches and selected after a review process by area high school coaches, college coaches and Major League Baseball scouts.

Team Georgia is scheduled to play Team Missouri on Saturday before facing Team Colorado on Sunday.

Lowndes: Sophomore Tyler Andrews was selected as Region 1-7A’s Player of the Year and a first-team infielder. Fellow first-teamer Rose was recognized as co-Hitter of the Year, along with Colquitt County’s Raines Plant. Cameron Carter was named co-Pitcher of the Year with Colquitt County’s Dylan Collins. Coach Rusty Beale earned the region’s Coach of the Year.

Outfielders Smith and Tyson Shaw and catcher Wyatt Fender were first-team performers. Carter was named first-team as a pitcher.

Brett Beals was an honorable mention.

Valdosta: Thomas was named Region 1-6A’s Player of the Year and a first-team selection as a utility player. Jude Ard (P) and Avery Stephens (INF) also earned spots on the first-team list. 

Ard was named to the second-team as an outfielder and Avery Stephens earned a second-team spot as a pitcher. Cory McCann (INF) was also listed on the second-team.

Dustin Doscher (C) and Eric Posas (P) were honorable mentions.
