Georgia freshman C.J. Smith was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Freshman All-American Team on Monday.
Smith, a pitcher and outfielder for the Bulldogs, was selected among 32 other top level players in the nation. He was also listed to the NCBWA Freshman All-American second-team as a utility player.

The freshman from Royston, Georgia made 14 pitching appearances, five starts and ended with a 2.48 ERA. For the season, he tallied 27 strikeouts more than 36 1/3 innings pitched.
As a position player, Smith made 27 appearances. Through those 27, he started 17 out of 19 games in centerfield. He ended the season with a .300 batting average, two doubles, a home run and nine RBIs 80 at bats.
The last player to earn Freshman All-American honors was sophomore shortstop Cam Shepherd last season.
Smith’s selection makes him the 27th freshman in school history to earn Freshman All-America honors.
