Community deserves better newspaper

I had to chuckle a bit when I glanced at the article about your award ceremony in Sunday’s edition because it made me wonder if there really were that many lousy papers in the state of Georgia. Then I realized what I have previously envisioned this awards process to be – they give away so many that every paper must bring home a few so they can brag about themselves on the Sunday front page. With 606 awards the ceremony must have lasted all night.
I believe you’ve asked that people send letters to the editor so I guess this is mine. For what it’s worth, the opinion of this 70 year old guy who retired here almost 12 years ago but spent many years traveling the country and other parts of the world in my business life, this is probably the worst excuse for a newspaper I’ve ever seen. I’m not sure either my wife or I have ever come close to finishing a cup of coffee before being done with what you printed the night before. I don’t expect this to be like the New York Times or Washington Post, but I do believe this community deserves a lot better than it is getting.
