Former Georgia men’s tennis player John Isner reached another milestone Wednesday, defeating Canadian Milos Raonic to advance to the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time in his career.

Isner, the No. 10-ranked player in the world, according to the ATP World Tour rankings, defeated Raonic 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 and 6-3. He faces No. 8 Kevin Anderson, a native of South Africa, in the semifinals. Anderson upset No. 2 Roger Federer earlier in the day Wednesday.

It’s taken Isner 41 attempts to reach his first grand slam final, the second-most in the Open era. With the win, he joins Serena Williams as the only two Americans left in the tournament.

He is now a win away from being the first former Georgia player to reach the final of a men’s singles grand slam event since Mikael Pernfors reached the French Open final in 1986.
