A very good question

I was speaking at the Retired Teachers meeting in Homerville last week and we were discussing the upcoming election for Governor. One of the ladies made a statement, then asked a question that I had never faced before. She said that she was seeing ads from candidates and they were all saying that they were a conservative, a Christian, a supporter of cutting taxes, a supporter of the second amendment and they were against abortion.
Then she ask “If they all say the same thing, how am I to know who to vote for?”
For an answer I used this parable. “In my business when I am looking to hire someone, I talk with them and look at their resume but then I search out people that have worked with the prospective employee and get their experience and opinion. I believe that the people that work with someone know that person better than anyone else. They know firsthand how that person acts, not just what they say. So my advice is look to the people that have worked with the candidate and see who they are endorsing and voting for.”
We have a much contested race for Governor with two good men in a run-off. Both are friends of mine and I have supported and contributed to both in prior years and different races. But after thinking about the parable that I used with the retired teachers in Homerville, I think it is time I take a dose of my own medicine and let my constituents know how the people that have worked with both men feel about these candidates.
Both Casey Cagle and Brian Kemp served as colleagues in the Georgia Senate and each moved on to higher office. Cagle became Lt. Governor and Kemp became Secretary of State.
Of the former Senators, 30 have endorsed Casey Cagle and only four have endorsed Brian Kemp. Of the Senators who hold office today, 25 have endorsed Casey Cagle and only three have endorsed Brian Kemp. Many of these current Senators served when Lt. Governor Cagle and Secretary Kemp were both Senators.
Folks that value the opinion of people that have worked with both candidates won’t have any problem deciding who to vote for.
I hope you will join me in voting for Casey Cagle for Governor. The election is July 24. Do not miss the opportunity for your vote to be counted.
Senator Ellis Black, 8th District
