VALDOSTA — The Hahira City Council voted and approved a 1.77 property tax increase Thursday evening.
Approval means an increase in property tax collections that the City of Hahira will receive, which is currently $312,820. That will now go up to $318,357— a difference of $5,537.
The increase does not represent an increase in the millage rate, which has been 4.75 since 2012.
“Some appreciations go up in a year, and some go down,” said Jonathan Sumner, city manager. “Enough of them went up in the City of Hahira that the maintaining of the millage at 4.75 necessitates a little bit of an increase.”
This was the third and final meeting Hahira was required to have before City Council could vote for the tax increase.
