Darcee Brown allowed four hits and struck out seven in the Valwood softball team’s 4-0 victory against the Westwood Wildcats on Tuesday.

Coming off two losses last weekend, the Valiants (5-3) returned in a strong way.

Valwood didn’t catch a break in the first inning, going three up, three down despite three hard line drives to the outfield by Bri Fosdick, Natalie Rojas and Graceigh Booth.

The scoring began in the second.

Emily Taylor was hit by a pitch to give the Valiants their first base runner. Ansley Bennett moved her to second followed by a double to the fence by Mary Clare Martin, which scored Taylor. Brown followed Martin’s double with a walk. Clare Nijem entered the game to add speed to the bases when Lindsey Browning and Fosdick’s back-to-back singles scored two more bringing the score to 3-0.

The Valiant defense held the Wildcats scoreless again in the top of the third. Booth led off the bottom of the third inning with a screamer over the left-field fence, tallying her third home run of the season.

Ansley Haskard and Rojas added hits late in the game.

Valwood returns home Sept. 14, hosting region rival Southland Academy.
