WASHINGTON, Ga. — The Georgia Military College Prep School football team needed a win badly Friday night, but so did the Tigers of Washington-Wilkes.

The result was a 50-6 pounding put on the Bulldogs that leaves the team 3-5 and a winless 0-5 in region play.
“We didn’t make plays and just didn’t perform very well,” a dejected Steven Simpson, GMC Prep head coach, said following the loss. “It was a week filled with a lot of distractions that I think we let get the better of us. They (Washington-Wilkes) are a good football team that’s well-coached and does a good job.”
The Bulldogs weren’t exactly set up for success this week with Hurricane Michael taking two days of practice off the table. That coupled with the fact that the team’s starting quarterback was out recuperating from a concussion sustained last week did little to help matters. The host Tigers pounced from the outset, leaving little doubt as to who would come out on top Friday night.
GMC Prep hopes to put the lopsided result behind them with another region game coming up next week. The Bulldogs will be back on Davenport Field to take on Lincoln County.
“It’s Homecoming and alumni weekend so it’s going to be a big game with a big crowd and a great atmosphere,” Simpson said, “so our guys will look forward to that. The last couple of times we’ve played Lincoln at home we’ve played them fairly close. They are sort of struggling right now as well, they lost to Greene County tonight I believe. They’re a good ball team, but they’re not the Lincoln of the late ‘90s and the early 2000s.”
