Woman, child die in Clinch County fire

The scene of a fatal fire in Homerville is taped off Wednesday morning. A woman and child died in a blaze in a corner apartment on Sweat Street, according to Clinch County's deputy coroner.

HOMERVILLE — Two people died in a fire early Wednesday in Clinch County, according to the county’s deputy coroner.

A call went out at 2:45 a.m. for a stove fire at Brookwood Apartments on Sweat Street in Homerville, said W.G. Smith, Clinch County’s deputy coroner.

The fire claimed the lives of a 35-year-old woman and a boy aged 4, he said.

The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of family members, Smith said.

The state fire marshal’s office is in charge of investigating the incident, he said.
