DASHER — During fall in South Georgia, spiders seem to be spinning their webs everywhere. Two special spiders spun webs just for Lisa Hale’s first-grade class at Georgia Christian School recently.
Hale imported the spiders from her backyard to show her class what spiders do in nature. Using a shallow pan of water, Playdough and two sticks placed close together, students observed the spiders climb, swing between the two sticks, then gradually begin to weave a web between the two sticks, school officials said.

Since the spiders were two different species, they looked different, but went about their work in a similar fashion.
Students observed and discussed what they saw during the building of the spiders’ webs. The observation gave them a deeper understanding and appreciation of the job that spiders do in nature, and how they go about it, school officials said.
