“I’m extremely pleased to be appointed to the national committee,” Purvis said. “I have served on regional committees twice and currently on several other committees within both the NCAA and (Golf Coaches Association of America). I’m a big supporter in trying to grow DII golf and make the experience as good as possible for our student-athletes.”
Purvis was hired at VSU in July 2002. He has recorded nine team tournament wins with 13 individual tournament victories. Purvis has coaches six All-American honorees, while Brent Witcher was named National Player of the Year in 2009. Under Purvis’ guidance, the Blazers have had at least one individual reach the NCAA postseason each of his 15 years at VSU with 10 team qualifications and five individual bids. He has had four players qualify for the U.S. Amateur and 14 Academic All-America honorees.
Purvis and the Blazers complete the fall portion of the schedule at the UIS Island Getaway, hosted by University of Illinois-Springfield on Oct. 29-30 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
