DASHER – Georgia Christian School elementary students had a chance to consider a wide variety of career opportunities as they welcomed several alumni, business leaders and some four-legged friends to the school.
The Elementary School Career Day was planned in conjunction with the final day of Red Ribbon Week, which had the theme “Think of All You Can Be When You Stay Drug Free.” Students were asked to come to school dressed for their dream jobs.
The school welcomed a wide variety of people for Career Day who all shared information with the elementary students about their businesses and careers, school officials said.
Lisa Ethridge from Newburn Family Dental shared tips on caring for teeth. Dr. Ali Thornhill of Veterinary Care brought her chihuahua, Nacho, and allowed students to listen to his heartbeat through a stethoscope.
Lindsay Colson from Captured by Colson shared information about her photography business. Crystal Rowan from Hester & Morris Orthodontics talked with students about orthodontic care.
Matt Baker from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office brought his K9, Pedro. Nikki Rodgers and Ashley Mock from CBC Bank provided banking information.
Tina King from Chick-fil-A Lake Park brought the friendly Chick-fil-A cow and plenty of hugs. Dr. Sheri Swader from Southern Healthcare Alliance shared health-care information and Ashley Greene from South Georgia Partners for Health shared information on nursing.

“It is never too early for students to be exposed to a multitude of careers,” school officials said. “Not only does it show them the variety of opportunities the workplace has to offer, it also gives them the confidence to pursue their dreams.”
Georgia Christian plans to host a Middle & High School Career Day in the spring.
