CHATSWORTH, Ga. — The Murray County Sheriff’s Office hopes to have two people in custody “by Monday or Tuesday at the latest” after a video was sent to the sheriff’s office of a man shooting a dog, resulting in the dog’s death.
Jimmy Davenport, chief deputy of the sheriff’s office, said the video was sent to the sheriff’s office via Facebook at around 1:30 to 2 p.m. on Friday. It was forwarded to investigators, who were able to identify two suspects.
Davenport said arrest warrants were taken out later that afternoon and it is hoped to have both in custody “by Monday or Tuesday at the latest.”
One individual is Jeremy Tipton, who posted the video on Facebook, Davenport said. He did not have the name of the other suspect in front of him Friday night. The warrants are for misdemeanor cruelty to an animal, he said.
Davenport said it is still an ongoing investigation and the report is not final.
He gave a “shoutout to investigators who really hustled to bring closure to this. It was a top-notch job.”
Davenport said he appreciated the video being forwarded to the sheriff’s office.
Lisa Green, director of Murray County Animal Control, had a strong reaction to the video.
“We are aware and sickened by the Facebook video that has surfaced of the man shooting a dog,” Green posted on animal control’s Facebook page. “We take any cruel action made toward the animals in this county very seriously.”
