LOPD searching for shooting suspects

LIVE OAK, Fla. — The Live Oak Police Department is searching for three individuals that fled the scene of a shooting Monday night.

Officers responded to “shots fired” in the area of 514 Lincoln Avenue around 7:50 p.m. Monday and found an injured man, James Lee Owens, of Live Oak, lying on the front porch with a single gunshot wound to his leg, the LOPD release states.

A neighbor was providing aid to the victim, having affixed a tourniquet to his leg.

Owens was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville via helicopter and is in stable condition, according to LOPD.

Witnesses told authorities that two vehicles drove up to the front yard of the residence with three individuals exiting the vehicles, the release states, with two men facing the porch as third knocked on the door.

The release states that witnesses heard gunshots shortly after the vehicles arrived and at least one witness said the shots appeared to come from the men in the yard.

The three individuals then fled in the two vehicles.

LOPD place an immediate state-wide BOLO in effect and requested assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement mobile crime scene technician.

Evidence from the scene has been collected and the investigation is ongoing.
