VALDOSTA — Academic calendars for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years were adjusted and approved for Valdosta City Schools students and employees.
School will start Aug. 8 for the 2019-20 school year, and the last day will be May 22.
Breaks include Labor Day Sept. 2, fall break Oct. 11-14, Thanksgiving Nov. 25-29, winter holiday break Dec. 23-Jan. 6, MLK Day Jan. 20, winter break Feb. 14-17 and spring break April 6-10.
For the 2020-21 school year, school starts Aug. 6, ends May 21, and breaks are Sept. 7, Oct. 12, Nov. 23-27, Dec. 21-Jan. 5, Jan. 18, Feb. 19-22 and April 5-9.
Jennifer Steedley, public relations director, worked on the calendar and said the dates were the best way to squeeze in 90 days each semester as well as 10 teacher in-service days.
“We put (these calendars) out for comments, and we shared those comments with you,” Steedley said. “You’re never going to please every single person. We even looked at Lowndes calendar, which they have already adopted.”
During the Board of Education meeting Tuesday night, the board approved the calendar as is. It was the only item voted on at the board meeting.
The next work session meeting will be 7 p.m., Feb. 26, Valdosta High School.
