Retreat to review city schools performance, policies

VALDOSTA — Valdosta City Schools Board of Education has a full agenda set for its annual retreat Wednesday and Thursday.
Each day’s session starts 9 a.m. Major discussion points will be enrollment projections, district attendance zones, plans for pre-K, possibilities for the old Valdosta High School, education special purpose local option sales tax updates, school start and end times, uniforms, new graduation requirements and board compensation.
Wednesday, Feb. 20, will start with a College and Career Ready Performance Index discussion, leading into a conversation about district-wide academic performances and end with board member comments. It is slated to end at 4 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 21, retreat day could end earlier at 3:30 p.m., starting the day with a surveillance system update, transportation department discussions, a Valdosta Early College Academy update, student support services and a superintendent and board of education work session to wrap things up.
The retreat will be held at the new Valdosta High School, 4590 Inner Perimeter Road, and the public is welcome to sit in on the discussions.
