Preseason all-area baseball team announced

- Wyatt Morrill was one of four Bulldogs to make the preseason all-area baseball team.
With the high school baseball season set to begin in North Florida, there are sure to be plenty of breathtaking plays and remarkable performances from the outstanding players at Lafayette, Branford, Suwannee and Hamilton County. Whether its a long home run, a diving catch or a brilliant pitching performance, each member of the Suwannee Valley All-Preseason Team is guaranteed to bring the crowd to its feet.
Here’s a look at the players to watch for the 2019 season.
Suwannee
Bo Bonds, P/IF/C
An excellent two-way player, Bonds led Suwannee with a .414 average last season and pounded three home runs. With a 90 mph fastball and good changeup, Bonds sported a 2.46 ERA last season and averaged 1.76 strikeouts per inning.
Wyatt Morrill, 1B/P
Morrill hit two home runs and drove in 13 in his junior campaign. He hit well against some tough competition, delivering in games against Bolles and North Florida Christian. He’ll also play an important role as a pitcher this season.
Trett Wadford, 3B/OF
Batted .329 with eight extra-base hits and 12 RBIs in 2018.
Marquis Jones, INF/OF/P
Jones did a little bit of everything for Suwannee last season, playing some good defense around the infield and providing a spark on offense. Jones hit .324 with one home run and six stolen bases. The side-arming pitcher also gave Suwannee some good innings out of the bullpen.
Lafayette
Dylan Mock, P/SS
The junior is set to begin his third season a varsity starter. He’s a .319 career hitter and also the ace of the Hornets’ staff.
Jaxson Beach, 2B
Batted .309 last season with a home run, two doubles and 12 RBIs. He led LHS with 11 stolen bases in 14 attempts.
Branford
Tyler Whitfield, P/INF
The senior pitcher/shortstop will be starting on varsity this season for the fourth straight year. He’s hit better than .300 every season, including a .355 average last year. On the bump, he went 4-1 with a 0.81 ERA in 2018.
Brock Lewis, P
A transfer from Bell, Lewis is a left-handed pitcher with some zip on his fastball.
Hamilton County
Blake Howard, 3B/P
Hit .292 with five doubles and 16 RBIs a season ago. Logged 41 1-3 innings on the mound, finishing with a 3-2 record and 2.71 ERA.
