Haynes resigns after six seasons as VHS boys basketball coach

On the same day that the Valdosta High girls were eliminated from the postseason, VHS boys basketball coach Antonio Haynes announced that he is stepping down as head coach. Haynes coached the ‘Cats for six seasons, compiling a record of 84-76 with a 23-33 mark in region play.

Haynes posted a winning record in four of his six seasons at Valdosta, including a 17-11 mark in his first season as head coach. 

The former Western Kentucky guard led the ‘Cats to a 12-15 record this past season, finishing 3-8 in Region 1-6A. The ‘Cats advanced to the GHSA Class 6A State Playoffs, but were eliminated by Tucker in the first round, 65-49.

Haynes said in a Facebook post, “I have dedicated myself to Valdosta High Basketball the last 6 years and now I look forward to the next challenge in my life.”
