VALDOSTA — Lowndes County Schools made a minor modification to its 2019-20 academic calendar.
The county voted to move its spring break back from March 30 through April 3, 2020, to April 6-10, 2020, just a week later than when it was originally approved.
During a board of education meeting March 4, LaVerne Rome, public relations director, brought the updated calendar before board members and asked the change be approved so Lowndes County shares its spring break with nearby school systems.
“That would coincide with the Valdosta City Schools, Camden County, Colquitt County, Berrien County and a few school districts nearby,” Rome said. “That is keeping with what we traditionally have.”
The board also approved the 2020-21 school year calendar.
Lowndes first day for 2019-20 is Aug. 7, and the last day is May 22. In the 2019-20 school year, breaks include:
• Labor Day, Sept. 2.
• Fall break, Oct. 11 and 14.
• Thanksgiving holiday, Nov. 25-29.
• Christmas holiday and student holiday, Dec. 23-Jan. 7.
• Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 20.
• Winter break and student holiday, Feb. 17-18.
• Spring break, April 6-10.
The 2020-21 school year starts Aug. 7 and ends May 21. The academic year breaks are:
• Labor Day, Sept. 7.
• Fall break, Oct. 12.
• Thanksgiving holiday, Nov. 23-27.
• Christmas holiday and student holiday, Dec. 21-Jan. 5.
• Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 18.
• Winter break and student holiday, Feb. 15.
• Spring break, April 5-9.
