Way: America must stop kicking the can down the road

An important word “illegal” was left out in the Steve and Cokie Roberts’ Times article, April 18, 2019, conflating illegals with legals. President Trump’s rhetoric is anti-illegal immigrant, not anti-immigrant.
President Trump has said time and again he supports legal immigration not illegals. About a million legal immigrants are let into the USA each year. That should be enough even for the Roberts’ standpoint. The good economy is a result of tax cuts and deregulation, not immigration.
In March 2019, about 100,000 came across the southern border, illegally, from central America mostly (about all) unskilled, some criminals or gang members, drug runners, coyotes, women and children. Education and care must be provided the children.
About a million illegals are projected for 2019. The mayor of Yuma, Ariz., is asking the federal government for help to care for about 1,100 who came across the border.
President Trump has been asking Congress to close loopholes in immigration law instead of kicking the can down the road as they have been doing many years.
President Trump wants the wall built to stop illegals. Walls have been shown to work in other countries.
With about 22 million illegals already in the USA, how many more do you want?
If Steve and Cokie Roberts’ article is true, sanctuary cities and states including Pacific Heights, should be glad to invite anybody in.
The governor of California said, “We have open arms for all.”
