West Nassau eliminates Suwannee from playoffs

CALLAHAN — The Suwannee softball team was knocked out of the playoffs with a 6-0 loss Wednesday at West Nassau.

The Bulldogs had a few early opportunities on offense, but stranded runners on second and third base in the second inning and left two runners on base in the third inning.

The Warriors took advantage of their chances, scoring two runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. They scored six runs on just six hits against SHS pitcher MacKenzie Taylor.   

Taylor, Shelby Blankenship and Alexis Dalton accounted for all three of Suwannee’s hits.   

This marks the second straight year Suwannee has been knocked out by West Nassau in a regional quarterfinal. The Bulldogs finished the season with a 10-12 record, which included wins against Baker County and Santa Fe.

Maci Brown led the Bulldogs this season with a .417 average. She hit seven home runs, drove in 21 runs and walked 18 times. Shortstop Carson Frier hit .368 with two home runs and 10 RBIs.

Taylor batted .324 with seven extra-base hits and handled most of the pitching duties, along with freshman Karis Smith. Smith batted .318 with two runs and 12 RBIs. Kaiya Hurst finished with a .299 batting average, three home runs and 13 RBIs.
