Sneads defeats Lafayette in state semifinal

VERO BEACH — The Lafayette High softball team’s magical run came to an end on Tuesday with a 12-1 loss to Sneads in a Class 1A State Semifinal. 

The Pirates had 11 hits and used a seven-run fifth inning to win by run rule in five innings. Michaela Edenfield hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give Sneads the lead and Taylor Lanphere did plenty of damage at the plate with a 4-4 performance and two doubles.

Richelle McDonald, Katie Land and Charlie James had one hit apiece for the Hornets, who scored their only run in the second inning on James’ RBI single.

The Hornets finish the season 14-13 after winning nine out of their previous 11 games to reach the Final Four for the first time since 2013. 

Sneads (21-8) will play in the championship game Wednesday.
