VALDOSTA — Residents at Azalea Towers affected by a fire this week are starting to return to their homes, according to apartment staff.
The Valdosta Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Azalea Towers, 2910 Tara Drive, at about 1 a.m. Thursday, June 27.
Property Manager Lori Turner said while most of the 60 displaced tenants have returned home, a few tenants are still unable to do so.
Residents not able to move back home will stay in a hotel, she said.
Turner said some of the units suffered minor water damage. The units that were severely affected were next door to apartment 313 where the fire originated, she said.
Thursday, evacuees were taken to Morningside Baptist Church where they received assistance from the American Red Cross of South Georgia and the Salvation Army.
