Batman can’t understand it.
Crime is down. He and Selina “Catbird” Kyle are in love and having adventures. Mayor Oswald “The Penguin” Cobblepot has honored them. Gotham is bright and sunny and happy. Its residents employed.
Still, Gotham residents are committing suicide at an increasing rate. An alarming rate.
Why? Everything’s so good.
Or is it?
As Batman raises too many questions, he’s committed to Arkham Asylum for having delusions …
“Gothopia” is the three-issue story arc serving as centerpiece to the fifth volume of the New 52 series of “Batman: Detective Comics.”
The storyline revolves around a plot by the Scarecrow, the villain who manipulates people by terrorizing their minds. Poison Ivy also plays a different role in the story.
The hard-cover volume includes a pre-commissioner James Gordon story – which is really an origin tale for the Bat-Signal. Man-Bat also returns for a follow-up story here.
“Gothtopia” is not the utopia of all Batman storylines but it’s good enough.
